Agriculture
Agricultural production in the St.George district is diverse and dynamic.
Income from agriculture has grown from approximately $75 million in 1994 to $297.7 million in the year ending March 1999.
The leading primary industries in the Shire are Cotton, Sheep/Wool, Grain crops, Wild Game Harvesting, Fruit/Vegetable Production and Beef/Cattle.
Production of cotton, beef and grain have increased whilst wool production has decreased. Successful development of the horticultural industry commenced with table grapes, which represents the second highest earning crop after cotton. In recent years there has been extensive diversification into wine grapes, rock melons, pumpkins and onions.
